Department of Urdu
Urdu is a language that belongs to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European language family. It is one of the official languages of India. It is also spoken in some other countries, such as Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Japan, Dubai, America, South Africa etc. Urdu has a rich literary and cultural heritage, and is influenced by Persian, Arabic, and Sanskrit. Urdu is written in a modified version of the Perso-Arabic script, called the Urdu alphabet, which has 36 letters. Urdu is closely related to Hindi, and they are mutually intelligible in spoken form. However, they differ in their writing systems and vocabulary.
The Department of Urdu, Hiralal Bhakat College, Nalhati, Birbhum-731220, West Bengal has been established in the year 2013. The Department has developed a lot over the years. The tendency of students to read Urdu is gradually increasing. We hope that very soon there will be a good number of Urdu readers here.
The Department offers Three years (6 semester) B.A. (General) program in Urdu language which covers definition, characteristics, origin and evolution of Urdu language in India. The salient feature of the course is a Ghazal, Nazam, Qaseeda, Marsiya, Masnavi, Dastan, Novel, Short Stories Urdu Journalism, Rhetoric and Translation etc. Besides that, the Department encourage the pupils for NET (National Eligibility Test) and SET (State Eligibility Test) and also encourage them to participate and attend the academic, social and cultural program in the Department/College.
Future Plan:
❖ To start B.A. (Hons.) in Urdu.
❖ To improve placement ratio with the help of Alumni of college and other Universities.
❖ To teach students Inpage and MS office in Urdu so that they can be able to face the newly World.
